Karim     :  I know that water is a very important element of our environment, human life and plant life. It is next to air. What does water pollution mean?

Rahim    :  You are right but you need to a little correction.  It will be pure water not water.  When harmful things get mixed into the water than it is called water pollution. 

Karim     :  What are the causes of water pollution?

Rahim    :  There are many causes of water pollution. Throwing trash, oil, harmful waste, chemical fertilizers, unsold products, into water cause water pollution. In the village, unsanitary latrines cause water pollution. 

Karim     :  What are the effects of water pollution?

Rahim    :  It has so many effects. Polluted water contains waste and harmful matter. It is very dangerous in our environment, human life and wild life.

Karim     :  What kinds of problem may we face?

Rahim    :  Polluted water is unsafe for people. It causes many diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery and typhoid. It is also responsible for skin disease.

Karim     :  How can we reduce water pollution?

Rahim    :  To reduce water pollution, we need to stop putting waste or garbage into the water. We also need to grow public awareness. Government, media and educated people should come forward and take proper steps for reduce water pollution.

Karim     :  I have understood. 

Rahim    :  Very good.

Salim       :  No. Every day you have to write some pages. Besides, you have to learn new vocabulary and their correct use and spelling. You have to write your diary in English every day.

Sultan      :  But how can I develop my reading skill?

Salim       :  By reading English newspapers daily, you can develop your reading skill easily.

Sultan      : But what about pronunciation?

Salim       :  You can watch BBC, CNN, National Geographic Channel or English news on television to develop your pronunciation skill. You can also speak in English to one another in the class.

Suvro   :  Why? Don’t you know about the bad effect of smoking?

Durjoy : Actually, recently i have been suffering from family problems. And cigarettes help me to forget the tension and depression.

Suvro   : But it is injurious to health. Rather smoking you should give effort to your family and solve family problem.

Durjoy :  You are right but things are very complicated. Depression and tension are teasing me. I can’t get out of them. For this cigarette is my only opinion.

Suvro  : But cigarettes contain nicotine and tobacco. It causes different disease including bronchitis, lungs cancer etc.

Durjoy :  Is smoking that effective?

Suvro  : Yes. It pushes you towards death. Smoker lives 10 years less than normal People.

Durjoy :  I didn’t know about so much bad effects of smoking.

Suvro  :  Not only physical effect but also it causes mental bad effect. Like it causes memory loss. By smoking one forgets anything easily. Which is bad for a student.

Durjoy :  It is really bad for a person. I should give up the habit of smoking.

Suvro  : Yes. You can remove your tension and depression in different ways but not by smoking.

Durjoy : Thanks for your discussion. I will try my best to give up this habit.

Hasan   : I am not so good. One of my neighbors died last night at a tragic road accident near Savar.
Rafsan   : Really it is very sad that there is not a single day you will find without the news of tragic road accident.
Hasan   : You are right. To speak the truth, nowadays it has become a common incident in our country.
Rafsan  : Yes, it is really a matter of serious concern nowadays but our policy makers seem indifferent to the fact.
Hasan    :  That’s is absolutely true. But can you tell me the causes of frequent road accident across the country?
Rafsan  : There are many causes responsible for this. Reckless driving, lack of traffic police, ignorance of the drivers, overtaking tendency, violating traffic signals and rules etc. contribute greatly to the frequent road accident.
Hasan   : You are absolutely right. The conditions of roads are also not good at many points. There is narrow, broken, and unmetalled roads. These are also contributed to many road accidents.
Rafsan : Right! However, immediate steps should be taken to reduce road accidents. What do you think?
Hasan   : Yes, of course. Strict laws should be introduced in this regard. Illiterate and careless drivers should be identified and their driving license should be cancelled.
Rafsan  :  So far, I could know from newspapers and other electronic media, most of the accidents take place for the reckless driving of the drivers, carelessness of the drivers to traffic rules, unfit vehicles and bad conditions of roads etc.
Hasan   : Can you please tell me how we can control and reduce the number of road accidents?
Rafsan  :  Firstly, we should train up our drivers properly. Then unfit and unlicensed vehicles should be removed from the roads. Also, the drivers should be compelled to follow the traffic rules. Also, the conditions of our roads should be improved.
Hasn    : Yes, you are right. If we can take these measures, the number of road accidents, will no doubt, be reduced.
