Everyday Life
The computer is one of the wonders of modern science. It is a fairly recent invention. It has now become an essential part of modern life. It has made our way of life easy and comfortable. We cannot do anything today without a computer.
A computer is basically a processor of information. Any device that helps people perform mathematical calculations may be called a computer. In 1933, Howard Akin, an American scientist, invented such a machine that could do difficult sums, and it was called the computer. Today’s computer is a special kind of electronic machine that can perform mathematical calculations and process large masses of information at a great speed.
A computer performs three functions. Firstly, it receives data. Secondly, it processes data. Thirdly, it provides output. Every computer has a machine language of its own, and accordingly, it works. Nowadays, a computer means a digital computer. It can do hundreds of things more than an analogue computer.
Digital computers are of four types: microcomputers, minicomputers, mainframe computers, and supercomputers. Computers are made in different forms, too. It is not only a monitor and a CPU. Embedded systems, such as those in washing machines or air-conditioners, are also computers designed to do a single specific task rapidly.
Computer are widely used in banks, insurance companies, and educational institutions for data storage, processing, and output etc. Computers are also used for telecommunications, air traffic control, navigation of ships and aircraft, etc. In the field of medicine, diagnosis and printing computers are doing wonders. A new developing section of Computer technology is ‘robotics. Robots are being made to help humans in their tasks, especially the dangerous and hard ones.
Computers have made our lives easier and enjoyable. It has brought for mankind such comforts as a man can never dream of, even in a fairy land. It is the latest miracle that has brought about revolutionary change in man’s life and in the application of science for the benefit of mankind.

কম্পিউটার আধুনিক বিজ্ঞানের বিস্ময়গুলির মধ্যে একটি। এটি মোটামুটি সাম্প্রতিক আবিষ্কার। এটি এখন আধুনিক জীবনের একটি অপরিহার্য অংশ হয়ে উঠেছে। এটি আমাদের জীবনযাত্রাকে সহজ এবং আরামদায়ক করে তুলেছে। আজ আমরা কম্পিউটার ছাড়া কিছুই করতে পারি না।
কম্পিউটার মূলত তথ্যের একটি প্রক্রিয়াকরণকারী। যে কোনও ডিভাইস যা মানুষকে গাণিতিক গণনা করতে সাহায্য করে তাকে কম্পিউটার বলা যেতে পারে। ১৯৩৩ সালে, একজন আমেরিকান বিজ্ঞানী হাওয়ার্ড আকিন এমন একটি মেশিন আবিষ্কার করেছিলেন যা কঠিন অঙ্ক করতে পারে এবং এটিকে কম্পিউটার বলা হত। আজকের কম্পিউটার একটি বিশেষ ধরণের ইলেকট্রনিক মেশিন যা গাণিতিক গণনা করতে পারে এবং বিশাল তথ্যকে দ্রুত গতিতে প্রক্রিয়াজাত করতে পারে।
কম্পিউটার তিনটি কাজ করে। প্রথমত, এটি ডেটা গ্রহণ করে। দ্বিতীয়ত, এটি ডেটা প্রক্রিয়াকরণ করে। তৃতীয়ত, এটি আউটপুট প্রদান করে। প্রতিটি কম্পিউটারের নিজস্ব একটি মেশিন ভাষা থাকে এবং সেই অনুযায়ী এটি কাজ করে। আজকাল, একটি কম্পিউটার মানে একটি ডিজিটাল কম্পিউটার। এটি একটি অ্যানালগ কম্পিউটারের চেয়ে শত শত কাজ করতে পারে।
ডিজিটাল কম্পিউটার চার ধরণের: মাইক্রোকম্পিউটার, মিনিকম্পিউটার, মেইনফ্রেম কম্পিউটার এবং সুপারকম্পিউটার। কম্পিউটার বিভিন্ন রূপে তৈরি করা হয়। এটি কেবল একটি মনিটর এবং একটি সিপিইউ নয়। ওয়াশিং মেশিন বা এয়ার-কন্ডিশনারের মতো এমবেডেড সিস্টেমগুলিও একটি নির্দিষ্ট কাজ দ্রুত করার জন্য তৈরি কম্পিউটার।
ব্যাংক, বীমা কোম্পানি এবং শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে ডেটা সংরক্ষণ, প্রক্রিয়াকরণ এবং আউটপুট ইত্যাদির জন্য কম্পিউটার ব্যাপকভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। টেলিযোগাযোগ, বিমান চলাচল নিয়ন্ত্রণ, জাহাজ ও বিমানের নেভিগেশন ইত্যাদির জন্যও কম্পিউটার ব্যবহার করা হয়। চিকিৎসা ক্ষেত্রে, রোগ নির্ণয় এবং মুদ্রণ কম্পিউটার বিস্ময়কর কাজ করছে। কম্পিউটার প্রযুক্তির একটি নতুন বিকাশমান অংশ হল 'রোবোটিক্স'। রোবটগুলি মানুষের কাজগুলিতে সাহায্য করার জন্য তৈরি করা হচ্ছে, বিশেষ করে বিপজ্জনক এবং কঠিন কাজগুলিতে।
কম্পিউটার আমাদের জীবনকে সহজ এবং উপভোগ্য করে তুলেছে। এটি মানবজাতির জন্য এমন আরাম এনেছে যা মানুষ কখনও স্বপ্নেও ভাবতে পারে না, এমনকি রূপকথার দেশেও। এটি সর্বশেষ অলৌকিক ঘটনা যা মানুষের জীবনে এবং মানবজাতির কল্যাণে বিজ্ঞানের প্রয়োগে বিপ্লবী পরিবর্তন এনেছে।
