Saint Martin’s
Island
Saint Martin's Island
is small in Bangladesh. It is the only coral island in Bangladesh. It has an
area of only 8 km2 in the north-eastern part of the Bay of Bengal. It is about
9 km south of the tip of the Cox's Bazar Teknaf. There is a small adjacent
island. It is separated at high tide, called Chhera Island. It is about 8 km
west of the north-west coast of Myanmar. During British period, the island was
name St. Martin Island. The local name of the island is "Narikel
Gingira". There are many turtles and sea-fishes here. The natural scenery
of Saint Martin's Island is very beautiful. Now, it is one of the attractive tourist
places of our country.
