Science in Everyday Life/ Wonders of Modern Science
Introduction: Modern civilization is the gift of modern science. Today, we are living in an age of science. Day and night, we make use of innumerable discoveries and inventions of science.
Electricity: Electricity is the great power behind many scientific inventions. The electric lamp lights up our houses. Radio, television, telegraph, telephone, cinema, tape-recorder, photo-copier, VCR, computers, and most of the mills and factories are run by electricity. There are also electric trains, printing presses, cookers, irons, fans, sewing machines, etc., run by electricity.
Space and Communication: Science has
conquered space and time. We can go from one place to another in a very short
time by train, steamer, plane, or rocket. We have reached the moon. We can now
send messages a great distance in a second. We can talk to anybody in any part of
the world by mobile phone. Radio brings songs, music, news, discussions, etc.
Television brings pictures, even in color. By FAX, any writing or picture can
be sent over great distances very easily. The Internet is yet another wonder of
modern science.
Industry: Spinning of yarn, weaving of
cloth, and sewing of clothes can be done at a great speed. Food processing,
house-building, constructing roads, and bridges can be done very quickly.
Millions of pages can be printed or reproduced in a short time. A calculator
can solve a complicated sum in no time.
Medicine: Science has discovered the causes
of most diseases and their remedies. A deadly disease like TB has been
conquered. Cholera has also been brought under control. Smallpox has been
eliminated. The X-ray and the antibiotic have been very helpful to man. Cornea
transplant, bypass surgery, etc., are marvels of medical science.
Agriculture: Science has increased food
production greatly. If we can apply the scientific methods properly, there will
be no hunger in the world. Tractors, power pumps, fertilizers, high-yielding
varieties of crops, and irrigation techniques have revolutionized agriculture.
Drawbacks: But science is not an unmixed
blessing. Science has also invented guns, bombs, and missiles, battleships and
war planes, chemical weapons, and nuclear warheads.
Conclusion: Modern science has made life comfortable and progressive. If properly used, it will be a blessing; if misused, it may turn into a curse.
বিজ্ঞানের আশীর্বাদ/ দৈনন্দিন জীবনে বিজ্ঞান/ আধুনিক বিজ্ঞানের বিস্ময়
ভূমিকা: আধুনিক সভ্যতা আধুনিক বিজ্ঞানের দান। আজ আমরা বিজ্ঞানের যুগে বাস করছি। দিনরাত আমরা বিজ্ঞানের অসংখ্য আবিষ্কার এবং আবিষ্কার ব্যবহার করি।
বিদ্যুৎ: বিদ্যুৎ অনেক বৈজ্ঞানিক আবিষ্কারের পিছনে একটি মহান শক্তি। বৈদ্যুতিক বাতি আমাদের ঘর আলোকিত করে। রেডিও, টেলিভিশন, টেলিগ্রাফ, টেলিফোন, সিনেমা, টেপ-রেকর্ডার, ফটো-কপিয়ার, ভিসিআর, কম্পিউটার এবং বেশিরভাগ কল-কারখানা বিদ্যুৎ দ্বারা চালিত হয়। এছাড়াও বৈদ্যুতিক ট্রেন, ছাপাখানা, কুকার, লোহা, পাখা, সেলাই মেশিন ইত্যাদি বিদ্যুৎ দ্বারা চালিত হয়।
মহাকাশ এবং যোগাযোগ: বিজ্ঞান স্থান এবং সময় জয় করেছে। আমরা ট্রেন, স্টিমার, বিমান বা রকেটের মাধ্যমে খুব অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে এক স্থান থেকে অন্য স্থানে যেতে পারি। আমরা চাঁদে পৌঁছেছি। আমরা এখন এক সেকেন্ডের মধ্যে অনেক দূর পর্যন্ত বার্তা পাঠাতে পারি। আমরা মোবাইল ফোনের মাধ্যমে বিশ্বের যেকোনো প্রান্তের যে কারো সাথে কথা বলতে পারি। রেডিও গান, সঙ্গীত, সংবাদ, আলোচনা ইত্যাদি নিয়ে আসে। টেলিভিশন ছবিও নিয়ে আসে, এমনকি রঙিনও। ফ্যাক্সের মাধ্যমে, যেকোনো লেখা বা ছবি খুব সহজেই অনেক দূর থেকে পাঠানো যায়। ইন্টারনেট আধুনিক বিজ্ঞানের আরেকটি বিস্ময়।
শিল্প: সুতা কাটা, কাপড় বুনন এবং কাপড় সেলাই করা অত্যন্ত দ্রুত করা যায়। খাদ্য প্রক্রিয়াকরণ, ঘরবাড়ি তৈরি, রাস্তাঘাট এবং সেতু নির্মাণ খুব দ্রুত করা যায়। অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে লক্ষ লক্ষ পৃষ্ঠা মুদ্রণ বা পুনরুৎপাদন করা যায়। একটি ক্যালকুলেটর অল্প সময়ের মধ্যেই জটিল পরিমাণ সমাধান করতে পারে।
চিকিৎসা: বিজ্ঞান বেশিরভাগ রোগের কারণ এবং তাদের প্রতিকার আবিষ্কার করেছে। টিবির মতো মারাত্মক রোগকে জয় করা হয়েছে। কলেরাকেও নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনা হয়েছে। গুটিবসন্ত নির্মূল করা হয়েছে। এক্স-রে এবং অ্যান্টিবায়োটিক মানুষের জন্য খুবই সহায়ক হয়েছে। কর্নিয়া প্রতিস্থাপন, বাইপাস সার্জারি ইত্যাদি চিকিৎসা বিজ্ঞানের বিস্ময়।
কৃষি: বিজ্ঞান খাদ্য উৎপাদন ব্যাপকভাবে বৃদ্ধি করেছে। আমরা যদি বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতিগুলি সঠিকভাবে প্রয়োগ করতে পারি, তাহলে পৃথিবীতে কোনও ক্ষুধা থাকবে না। ট্রাক্টর, পাওয়ার পাম্প, সার, উচ্চ ফলনশীল ফসলের বিভিন্ন প্রকার এবং সেচ কৌশল কৃষিতে বিপ্লব এনেছে।
অসুবিধা: কিন্তু বিজ্ঞান কোনও অমিশ্র আশীর্বাদ নয়। বিজ্ঞান বন্দুক, বোমা এবং ক্ষেপণাস্ত্র, যুদ্ধজাহাজ এবং যুদ্ধ বিমান, রাসায়নিক অস্ত্র এবং পারমাণবিক অস্ত্রও আবিষ্কার করেছে।
উপসংহার: আধুনিক বিজ্ঞান জীবনকে আরামদায়ক এবং প্রগতিশীল করে তুলেছে। সঠিকভাবে ব্যবহার করা হলে এটি আশীর্বাদ হবে; অপব্যবহার করা হলে এটি অভিশাপে পরিণত হতে পারে।
