A Rickshaw Puller
Rickshaw pullers are hardworking men who earn their living by carrying
passengers on cycle rickshaws, one of Bangladesh’s most common and eco-friendly
forms of transport. Most rickshaw pullers come from rural areas in search of
employment in big cities. Since they lack education or other job skills, they
chose this physically hard profession to feed their families. A typical day
starts early in the morning and often ends late at night. During their working
hours, they pedal tirelessly under the burning sun or pouring rain, carrying
people through narrow lanes and crowded streets where buses and cars cannot go.
Their efforts help commuters save time and money, making them indispensable to
city life, especially for students, workers, or elderly people. Sadly, despite
their dedication, they earn very little and live in poor slums or rented rooms,
struggling to support their families’ basic needs such as food, shelter, and
children’s education. Their work conditions are harsh, and they often suffer
from fatigue, joint pain, and poor health due to overwork and bad weather.
However, because cycle rickshaws do not cause air pollution, rickshaw pullers
indirectly contribute to a cleaner environment. Their struggles highlight
economic inequality and remind us about the dignity of labor. We must treat
them respectfully and support initiatives that improve their welfare, such as
proper housing and healthcare. If Bangladesh wants to develop fairly, society
and government must recognize the vital role of these workers. Rickshaw pullers
are silent heroes who keep our cities moving smoothly every day through their
relentless hard work and honest living, showing us true perseverance.
একজন রিকশাচালক
রিকশাচালকরা পরিশ্রমী মানুষ যারা বাংলাদেশের সবচেয়ে সাধারণ এবং পরিবেশবান্ধব পরিবহনের মাধ্যম সাইকেল রিকশায় যাত্রী বহন করে জীবিকা নির্বাহ করেন। বেশিরভাগ রিকশাচালক গ্রামাঞ্চল থেকে বড় শহরে কর্মসংস্থানের সন্ধানে আসেন। যেহেতু তাদের শিক্ষা বা অন্যান্য কাজের দক্ষতার অভাব রয়েছে, তাই তারা তাদের পরিবারের ভরণপোষণের জন্য এই শারীরিকভাবে কঠিন পেশাটি বেছে নেন। একটি সাধারণ দিন খুব ভোরে শুরু হয় এবং প্রায়শই গভীর রাতে শেষ হয়। তাদের কর্মঘণ্টায়, তারা জ্বলন্ত রোদ বা বৃষ্টির নীচে অক্লান্তভাবে সাইকেল চালিয়ে, সংকীর্ণ গলি এবং জনাকীর্ণ রাস্তায় যেখানে বাস এবং গাড়ি যেতে পারে না, সেখানে মানুষকে বহন করে। তাদের প্রচেষ্টা যাত্রীদের সময় এবং অর্থ সাশ্রয় করতে সাহায্য করে, যা তাদেরকে নগর জীবনের জন্য অপরিহার্য করে তোলে, বিশেষ করে ছাত্র, শ্রমিক বা বয়স্ক ব্যক্তিদের জন্য। দুঃখের বিষয় হল, তাদের নিষ্ঠা সত্ত্বেও, তারা খুব কম আয় করে এবং দরিদ্র বস্তিতে বা ভাড়া ঘরে বাস করে, তাদের পরিবারের খাদ্য, আশ্রয় এবং শিশুদের শিক্ষার মতো মৌলিক চাহিদা পূরণের জন্য সংগ্রাম করে। তাদের কাজের অবস্থা কঠোর, এবং অতিরিক্ত পরিশ্রম এবং খারাপ আবহাওয়ার কারণে তারা প্রায়শই ক্লান্তি, জয়েন্টে ব্যথা এবং দুর্বল স্বাস্থ্যের সমস্যায় ভোগে। তবে, যেহেতু সাইকেল রিকশা বায়ু দূষণের কারণ হয় না, তাই রিকশা চালকরা পরোক্ষভাবে একটি পরিষ্কার পরিবেশে অবদান রাখেন। তাদের সংগ্রাম অর্থনৈতিক বৈষম্যকে তুলে ধরে এবং আমাদের শ্রমের মর্যাদার কথা মনে করিয়ে দেয়। আমাদের অবশ্যই তাদের সাথে সম্মানজনক আচরণ করতে হবে এবং তাদের কল্যাণ উন্নত করার উদ্যোগগুলিকে সমর্থন করতে হবে, যেমন উপযুক্ত আবাসন এবং স্বাস্থ্যসেবা। যদি বাংলাদেশ ন্যায্যভাবে উন্নয়ন করতে চায়, তাহলে সমাজ এবং সরকারকে অবশ্যই এই শ্রমিকদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা স্বীকার করতে হবে। রিকশা চালকরা হলেন নীরব নায়ক যারা তাদের নিরলস কঠোর পরিশ্রম এবং সৎ জীবনযাপনের মাধ্যমে প্রতিদিন আমাদের শহরগুলিকে সুষ্ঠুভাবে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাচ্ছেন, আমাদের সত্যিকারের অধ্যবসায় দেখিয়েছেন।
