Our National Flag
The national flag of Bangladesh stands as an
emblem of the nation’s resilience, bravery, and enduring spirit of
independence. Deeply symbolic, the flag consists of a bottle green background
symbolizing the lush vegetation, vitality, and agricultural richness that
define the land and cultural identity of the country. The vibrant red circle in
the center slightly off the center towards the hoist side represents the blood
sacrificed by millions in the historic 1971 Liberation War, as well as the
radiant rising sun of hope for the future of a free nation. Designed originally
with a golden map during the war, the current simplified version was officially
adopted on 17 January 1972, just after victory. The flag’s proportion is 10:6,
and the red disc’s diameter is one-fifth of the flag’s length. The design
signifies honor, freedom, unity, and the memory of martyrs. The green backdrop
expresses renewal, growth, and the natural fertility of Bangladesh,
highlighting the country’s agrarian dominance. The red evokes courage,
revolution, and the eternal debt owed to those who laid down their lives. This
flag is hoisted proudly on government buildings, educational institutions,
diplomatic missions abroad, and during national ceremonies like Independence
Day, Martyrs’ Day, and Victory Day. It ignites patriotism and unity among
citizens, reminding all of their responsibility to protect the country’s
sovereignty. Over time, the national flag has become a symbol of inspiration,
rallying Bangladeshis globally to honor their roots. For students,
understanding the flag means understanding the sacrifices behind our freedom
and cherishing the ideals it represents: peace, unity, dignity, and progress.
আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকা
বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় পতাকা জাতির স্থিতিস্থাপকতা, সাহসিকতা এবং স্বাধীনতার স্থায়ী চেতনার প্রতীক হিসেবে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে। গভীরভাবে প্রতীকীভাবে, পতাকাটিতে একটি বোতল সবুজ পটভূমি রয়েছে যা দেশের ভূমি এবং সাংস্কৃতিক পরিচয়কে সংজ্ঞায়িত করে এমন সবুজ গাছপালা, প্রাণশক্তি এবং কৃষি সমৃদ্ধির প্রতীক। কেন্দ্র থেকে সামান্য দূরে উত্তোলনের দিকে কেন্দ্রে অবস্থিত প্রাণবন্ত লাল বৃত্তটি ঐতিহাসিক ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষের রক্তের পাশাপাশি একটি স্বাধীন জাতির ভবিষ্যতের জন্য আশার উজ্জ্বল উদীয়মান সূর্যের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করে। যুদ্ধের সময় একটি সোনালী মানচিত্র দিয়ে মূলত ডিজাইন করা, বর্তমান সরলীকৃত সংস্করণটি বিজয়ের পরপরই ১৭ জানুয়ারী ১৯৭২ সালে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে গৃহীত হয়েছিল। পতাকার অনুপাত ১০:৬ এবং লাল চাকতির ব্যাস পতাকার দৈর্ঘ্যের এক-পঞ্চমাংশ। নকশাটি সম্মান, স্বাধীনতা, ঐক্য এবং শহীদদের স্মৃতির প্রতীক। সবুজ পটভূমি বাংলাদেশের নবায়ন, বৃদ্ধি এবং প্রাকৃতিক উর্বরতা প্রকাশ করে, যা দেশের কৃষি আধিপত্যকে তুলে ধরে। লাল রঙ সাহস, বিপ্লব এবং জীবন উৎসর্গকারী ব্যক্তিদের প্রতি চির ঋণের প্রতীক। এই পতাকাটি সরকারি ভবন, শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান, বিদেশে কূটনৈতিক মিশনে এবং স্বাধীনতা দিবস, শহীদ দিবস এবং বিজয় দিবসের মতো জাতীয় অনুষ্ঠানে গর্বের সাথে উত্তোলন করা হয়। এটি নাগরিকদের মধ্যে দেশপ্রেম এবং ঐক্যকে জাগিয়ে তোলে, দেশের সার্বভৌমত্ব রক্ষার জন্য তাদের সকলের দায়িত্বের কথা স্মরণ করিয়ে দেয়। সময়ের সাথে সাথে, জাতীয় পতাকা অনুপ্রেরণার প্রতীক হয়ে উঠেছে, যা বিশ্বব্যাপী বাংলাদেশীদের তাদের শিকড়কে সম্মান জানাতে একত্রিত করে। শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য, পতাকাটি বোঝার অর্থ হল আমাদের স্বাধীনতার পিছনের ত্যাগগুলি বোঝা এবং এর প্রতিনিধিত্বকারী আদর্শগুলিকে লালন করা: শান্তি, ঐক্য, মর্যাদা এবং অগ্রগতি।
